Normally, you may just pay attention to whether the hood, mirror and cover of your car is clean, ignoring the aluminum wheels. While the wheel affects the overall scar appearance, you need clean wheels as well. The Oxidation always makes the wheels old and dirty. Grit, grease stains, and tar also do their best to make them look ugly which ultimately mars the beauty of your vehicle. Following are some useful tips of cleaning aluminum wheels.
Cleaning Aluminum Wheels
1. First thing you need to do is to make sure you can handle the wheel when go on your task. So you should take one of wheels off your car one at a time.
2. Remove every removable item from the wheel such as valve stem covers, center-caps etc before starting to clean the aluminum wheel. This will reduce some difficulties.
3. The car wash soap that you choose regularly is also not strong enough to clean the grease stains, tar or the dust. Before purchasing the cleaning paste, make sure that they do not contain acids or ammonia. Though the cleaning solutions containing these chemicals get the dirt off the metal surfaces to make them look shiny, the effect is short-lived. Ammonia and anhydrous chemicals can etch and age the aluminum metal in the wheels prematurely. These chemicals can cause re-oxidation and tarnish these wheels.
4. The next step is to wash the wheel. Use the cleaning solution or car wash soap you have bought to get all the loose dirt off the wheel. If you are going to use a brush to clean the aluminum wheels then instead of a tire brush, use a wheel brush, which is lot softer and doesn't leave scratches on the surface of the wheel.Try to reach every nook and cranny in the wheel surface to get rid of the loose dirt. Afterward, dry it using a clean cloth or towel.
5. Next, we tackle the stubborn grease stains and tar that have survived the washing and are still present on the wheel's surface. These can be removed using wax and grease remover solution such as paint prep. Pour a small amount of this solution in a small pot. Soak a soft cloth in the grease remover solution and wipe the whole wheel several times. Repeat the process till you are sure that the wheel is clean of all the stains. If you are satisfied with the result, wash the wheel again to get rid of the used cleaning solution and the dirt off the wheel surface.
If you maintain you car carefully, it is not a dream to own a shiny and eye-catching vehicle. The tips given above are easy to carry out if you keep doing. While you need to remember: if you want to enhance your car's performance, what you need to is clean the aluminum wheels from time to time and polish onto the aluminum wheels.
